1. Where are you from and where do you hope to go? I am from Livermore, CA and I hope to go anywhere...actually. I want to work in peds oncology and ideally in a Children's hospital...any one that'll take me!
2. First impression of Peru: I was shocked at the slumminess of it...I wasn't expecting the amount of poverty we've seen. The sandy streets, mud homes...all of it shocked me.
3. What type of nursing interests you most: Pediatric Oncology!!! Ever since visiting a friend with cancer in the hospital during high school, I've been inspired by her nurses and how incredible and caring they were and still are. From that moment until now I've wanted to be just like them...it seems to take a special person for that kind of nursing and I feel called to it.
4. Favorite experience of the trip thus far: I loved going to the beach!!!! It felt so much like home. But I also love visiting patients in their homes and seeing their environments and how proud they are of what they've literally built up themselves. It's a huge perspective shift.
5. What has been the most eye-opening experience while in Peru: The first night that Stef, Anna and I were in Lima waiting for the rest of our Marquette gang, we saw prostitutes on every single corner like we hear and talk about in the US, but it was real life. I was completely STUNNED seeing it first-hand and shaken to the core. Those young women have so much more to offer in life than their bodies.

Alex ~ another great blog. Reading about you, and knowing you as you've grown from a baby in Livermore, to a fine young lady now in Peru, you make me proud! I'm learning so much about you and your future wishes by reading your blog. Keep up the outstanding work, and play! Love, Grammy
