¡Nosotros Estamos Todavía Aquí!

Hey, guess what?! We're still here! We're still in Peru, we're still pretending to be nurses, and we're still as busy as ever!

This weekend was a time spent doing a lot of this...

Stef also got a makeover from Asmita last night before mass. Nothing like a quick haircut with the dull kitchen scissors!

With this week being our final week of clinical in Piura, all of our school work is due and evaluations are being prepared. It's been busy, busy, busy but we're still enjoying life! Throughout our four weeks together, the laughter has never ceased. We're a group of funny, funny people!!! This weekend also knocked quite a few of us on our booties. Multiple people from the Marquette gang are fighting illness and have seen better days. We're currently sitting around the table doing post-conference and since I don't have much exciting blog material, I asked everyone for one word on how they're feeling right this second. Here is how everyone feels:

Stef: Dumpy
Anna: Surviving
Sarah: Large
Dr. Weis: Great
Alex: Thriving
Meghan: Epigastric
Chris: Healthy
Tobin: Diarrhea
Lauren: Explosive
Genevieve: Loosey-goosey
Kerry: Struggle
Asmita: Coastin'

So there's that. Feel free to interpret that however you wish. :)

Moving on...we actually did have a couple fun adventures today! I spent the morning with Lauren, Asmita, and Anna in the eye clinic doing post-op visits with patients from last week and last year. They were so cute with their new eyes! This little patient was my favorite:

Sarah and I did our teaching projects to a group of middle-aged women this afternoon! Sarah taught about UTIs and their prevention while I taught about nutrition/health and wellness.

While Sarah was presenting, I snuggled with this little 15-day-old love. So precious. Here he is thinking about his day.

Sarah discussing with her audience about UTIs.

Here I am presenting the "MyPlate" diagram and my Jeopardy game board.

Genevieve and Tobin accidentally got in the wrong truck before clinical this afternoon, so they ended up at a construction site and spent some part of the afternoon building a house! It sounds like they throroughly enjoyed their time. With the extra time they had after building, they opened up an impromtu blood pressure screening!

Tobin and Gen with a few kiddos in the village

Gen with two girls teaching them how to listen for heart sounds- she's such a great teacher to all of us!!!

Tobin getting his heart checked out by a little girl; I'm sure it skipped a beat! ;)

That's really all we have for tonight--I apologize for the lame blog material!!!! We thank you for the support these last few weeks and ask for your prayers and we finish this week strong. Friday night will see us bound for the airport and venturing off to new adventures! Stick along as I try to continue blogging throughout!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for the endless love. We feel it greatly and can't wait to come back and share all our stories with you.

Sending love and laughter,

Alex & the gang
