1. Where are you from and where do you hope to go? I'm originally from Oak Forest, IL but I've lived in Muskego, WI the last 12 years. I hope to stay there to raise my kids but as a family we hope to travel a lot, both domestically and internationally.
2. First impression of Peru: I was very overwhelmed this entire time with the abject poverty, even though I knew that's what we were coming to see. It was just initially overhwleming to be at the center of it.
3. What type of nursing interests you most: I'm very passionate about pediatric critical care nursing but I've always had a public health heart. Patient safety and safety in general in the intensive care units is important to me also.
4. Favorite experience of the trip thus far: I think two really stand out: the first was when the girls at the orphanage sang to us in the chapel; I was really moved. The second: the overall thing has been home visits...I love being in people's homes. I have moved from feeling uncomfortable and awkward in their homes and have started understanding that they are very welcoming and appreciative to experience their homes.
5. What has been the most eye-opening experience while in Peru: I think kind of the pure, overwhelming faith that guides peoples' lives is incredible. It's been really amazing to see and feels very secular, much more than the states.

Thank you Dr. Weiss for imprinting the hearts and minds of our future medical professionals with such a positive experience, and for allowing the "Gang" to share their insights and "Joy" with us using this Blog. In appreciation of everyone's commitment to serve, a gift awaits you upon your return to Milwaukee.....and the packing slip tells you the rest of the story. Best wishes to a fun adventure at Machu Picchu, and may you have a safe return home to Wisconsin!!! Respectfully, Roger Accornero
